JOB PURPOSE:
- Safety Officer will play a pivotal role in establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving Health, Safety and Environmental systems and KPI’s by providing functional and technical leadership to the team.

- Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
- Ensure the company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety, and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
- Ensure that safety meetings are held regularly, and agendas & minutes filed
- Ensure that contractors adhere to the Health & Safety Act & Policy of the Company as well as safe operating procedures
- Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated, and recommended improvements implemented.
- Ensure that Health & Safety Representatives conduct monthly inspections and submit required reports monthly
- Ensure continuous Health & Safety training of all employees
- Ensure contractors Safety files are up to date and in place
- Responsible for site induction program for all employees, contractors, and visitors
- Report on safety statistics
- Report all occupational injuries and commuter injuries
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis of all serious incidents
- Ensure that statistics are maintained on plant regarding accidents, injuries, man hours lost, time & risk assessments
- To ensure that the development and installation of systems adhere to Health & Safety and Environmental standards
- Ensure compliance to Health and Safety statutory requirements
Minimum Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- National Senior Certificate / Matric
- SAMTRAC Certificate or equivalent occupational SHE training
- National Diploma or equivalent in Health & Safety Management
- First Aid level 2 Basic Certificate
- Fire Prevention Certificate
- Environmental & Quality qualification an advantage
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in monitoring and auditing of contractor safety performances.
- Experience of implementing and maintaining Health and Safety standards in a highly supply chain environment essential
- Exposure to and understanding of implementation of OHSAS systems
- Well experienced in Company standards and programs requirements in order to pass on knowledge and requirements to others.
