The role requires a qualified Pharmacist to take the role of Production Manager (Value Stream Leader).  

Summary of position:

Lead and co-ordinate all activities of the value stream / Production unit, strive to comply with GMP (Currently not GMP), within the expected safety and cost constraints.

Contribute to the improvement of the industrial manufacturing processes at the production department to meet regulatory and quality requirements aligned to the group's strategic plans and company objectives.

Manage production, including production planning, according to forecasts and work closely with the Supply Chain department and purchasing department on supply of production materials, from supplies through to output of the finished product.   This must be in compliance with quality standards, and within the set deadlines and the best productivity conditions.

1. Managing production

  • Has full ownership on the end-to-end value stream process (MPS) and ensure flow optimization.
  • Put together roadmap for his/her units (12 to 18 months).
  • Lead tier 3 (cross-functional QA).
  • Participate in site masterplan design.
  • Managing a non-GMP environment as close as possible to GMP principles.
  • Instituting validation systems.
  • Implement the induction/onboarding programme for new production team members.
  • Do production planning  and allocation of production duties.
    • Maintaining zero backorders.
    • Keep reworks to the minimum.
  • Organise, monitor and make corrective measures to production operations.
  • Guarantee the quality of the products manufactured by helping to promote GMP on the industrial site.
  • Guarantee deadlines by checking scheduling and monitoring.
  • Contribute to improving product production costs by controlling operating costs, production times and materials consumption.
  • Review standard operating procedures bi-annually and ensure implementation thereof.  Ensure SOPs are aligned with company's Corporate procedures.
  • Undertake regular stock counts to ensure accurate stock control.
  • Assist the Industrial Supply Chain Manager with production purchasing requirements for Active, excipients and packaging materials.
  • Work in a supportive role with QA to validate the various aspects of production (manufacturing, cleaning and hygiene).

2. Budget & cost control

  • Is responsible for the full value stream P&L.
    • Build/ consolidate the budget for validation at country level.
      • Keeping production costs as low as possible.
    • Establish productivity targets and propose cost optimisation (including opex & capex)
    • Liaising with other functions (QA, Supply Chain & Purchasing etc.).
    • Challenge practices & continuous standards to be best in class.  
    • Implement and develop relevant KPIs and performance management tools to respect and improve efficiency standards.
    • Propose financial and human investments in the departments to optimise industrial plant efficiency and flexibility.

3. Compliance and safeguard

  • Safeguard compliance across the entire Value Stream(quality, safety..)
    • Make sure there's no backlog in deviation.
    • Prioritize deviation management.
    • Is part of the QA committee and safety committee.
    • Is responsible for documentation availability.
    • Is ready for inspections & fulfill post-audit commitments.
    • Build training roadmap with QA & HSE.
      • Implement staff training on key processes and GMP.
      • Oversee cleaning of equipment and validation of cleaning methods to ensure optimum care of production equipment.           

4. Operation Excellence:

  • Continuous improvement
    • Ensure the execution of the deployment plan and the implementation of CPS standards within the value stream.
    • Identify improvement initiatives and allocate the necessary resources to achieve the objectives for the value stream.
    • In liaison with the other functions, identify actions for cross-sectional improvement, provide support and resources for achievement of identified actions.
    • Promote the operational excellence culture and continuous improvement initiatives from its teams.
    • Validate manufacturing and packaging protocols and seek to make continuous improvements.
    • Guarantee quality of production thorough sound GMP Principles.
    • Ensuring quality product thereby minimizing customer complaints.

5.  Maintenance:

  • Plan and oversee maintenance and preventative maintenance operations and enforce compliance with hygiene and safety procedures.
  • Ensure that the machinery in the production unit is functioning at optimal level.
  • Managing maintenance to minimise breakdowns.

6. Long / mid Term strategy, CAPEX

    Participate in CAPEX local committee to deal with CAPEX below 20 K€.

7. Project management

  • Participate in the definition and deployment of strategic site projects within the value stream and support/sponsor cross-departmental projects (CAPEX, production, and method transfer, etc).
  • Prioritize projects.

8. Management

  • Manage and coordinate the production team.
  • Maintain a highly motivated and well-functioning team with focus on improving engagement further and developing people.
  • Ensure the team adhere to corporate projects and requirements (quality, safety, productivity, organizational change, GMP processes etc.)
  • Ensure team adhere to all Covid-19 protocols and rules, OHS rules, policies & procedures.

Requirements:

Must have Matric / Grade 12.

Relevant Diploma /degree (B. Pharm degree will be an advantage) / 

Advantageous Registered with Pharmacy Council GMP Certificate

5 years’ experience in Production Management.

Thorough understanding of GMP.

MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint – intermediate to advanced skills required

The following would enhance your position:  Experience on bill of materials / ERP Management in JD Edwards.

Competencies required:

  • Basic technical & mechanical knowledge of machines.
  • Production processes & procedures knowledge.
  • Production planning experience.
  • QA and OHS regulations and standards.
  • IT Tools:  MS Office and JD Edwards proficiency.
  • Lean methods.
  • Budget.
  • Project Management.
