Purpose of the role
- To develop and implement Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) programmes which bear critical importance to company’s objectives, operations, and profitability.
- Ensures compliance to HSE procedures and regulations in company’s operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide insight into the Environmental implications of company’s production activities on its environment.
- Provide strategic direction and drives initiatives for Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) activities within company.
- Monitoring, auditing, and reviewing the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Ensuring compliance with local and national OHS laws and legislation.
- Consult with Heads of Departments to drive adoption and compliance with HSE standards, policies, and procedures.
- Develop performance standards to measure successful implementation of the HSE management system.
- Ensure proper safekeeping of company’s operating environment, and promotes a good sanitation, hygiene, and safety culture.
- Responsible for ensuring that the OH&S and Environmental management systems conform to the requirements of the ISO 45001, 14001 and other relevant management system standard.
- Recommend and makes the business case for adopting corrective measures to address identified HSE risks and issues. Oversees the implementation of adopted measures.
- Responsible for developing and overseeing environmental, socials, and corporate governance (ESG) policies and procedures.
- Ensuring the Environmental, social and Governance management systems conform to the requirements of the Aluminium stewardship Initiative (ASI), Suppliers Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX), and the Suppliers Guiding Principles (SGP).
- Ensure all HSE related complaints are duly investigated and resolved.
- Maintaining effective relationships with relevant external agencies and emergency response service providers (e.g., Fire Service, emergency services, environmental agency etc.)
- Manage and investigate any safety incident that occurs in the workplace by gathering and analysing detailed information to determine the immediate, underlying and root causes of the incident.
- Take prompt emergency action for reported accidents, incidents and near miss issues, and attends to injuries.
- Develop and implement effective procedures for safely disposing company’s waste material.
- Develop and drive the implementation of training programmes for occupational health, safety & environment management for staff and contractors.
- Provides direction to the HSE unit and ensures the quality of work meets with performance expectations.
- Ensure that legal responsibilities for health and safety are always met.
- Consider the environmental implications of incidents.

Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Health and Safety Management or Engineering, Environmental, SAMTRAC, NEBOSH or a related qualification.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar role within the manufacturing industry
- At least 5 years managerial experience
- Specialist knowledge and practical application of the Occupational Health & Safety and the Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.
- Registration with professional safety body (desirable.)
- Awareness of ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and ISO 45001.
- Experience of using OHS systems, and producing reports based on results from the monitoring, audit, and review process.
- Experienced at using MS office and producing informative reports.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
