Permanent - Field Structural/Welding Inspector Maritime Cranes & Construction Machines - eThekwini (Durban) - South Africa

Role Summary

• Reporting to the Team Leader Projects, the Structural Inspector is responsible for conducting full structural inspections of maritime cranes, construction machines, and other heavy machinery in line with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) instructions and guidelines.
• This role requires permanent travel to various job sites, ensuring that all structural components meet safety and quality standards.
• The Structural Inspector will also closely collaborate with the Structural Department in the development of repair procedures and other improvements.

Accountabilities / Key Performance Areas

• Ensure that all inspections are thorough and comply with OEM guidelines and industry standards
• Work closely with the Structural Department to develop, review, and refine repair procedures
• Complete inspection reports accurately and promptly, detailing findings, corrective actions, and recommended solutions.
• Travel and Flexibility.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform full structural inspections on maritime cranes, construction machinery, and related equipment according to OEM specifications and safety guidelines.
• Ensure that all structural components are in optimal condition, identifying potential risks or damage and recommending necessary repairs or replacements.
• Collaborate with maintenance and technical teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Work closely with the Structural Department in the development of repair procedures, guidelines, and best practices for structural maintenance.
• Prepare detailed reports of inspections, noting any findings and actions taken, ensuring all documentation is accurate and submitted on time.
• Provide guidance and expertise on structural integrity to the field teams and support in the planning and execution of maintenance procedures.
• Conduct thorough assessments of welds, joints, bolts, and other critical structural elements.
• Assist in the development of inspection checklists and processes, ensuring they meet up-to-date regulations and guidelines.
• Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and report any safety hazards immediately.
• Continuously improve inspection processes, recommending enhancements or changes based on industry trends and best practices.
• Demonstrate flexibility in responding to urgent or high-priority site needs country wide and cross border
• Assist with the preparation of repair proposals where required

Proven experience in structural / Welding & NDT inspections, particularly in the maritime or mining industry.

Must be a qualified welding inspector.

Computer Skills

• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word & Excel.
