The Transport Logistics Area Manager is responsible for managing transport operations and logistics activities within a designated region. This role ensures that fleet resources are optimally utilised, deliveries are completed efficiently, and operations comply with company policies, safety standards, and legal requirements. The manager will oversee staff, fleet performance, and customer service while driving operational excellence and cost efficiency
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Plan, coordinate, and manage daily transport and logistics operations within the assigned area.
- Ensure optimal vehicle routing, scheduling, and resource allocation to achieve service delivery targets.
- Monitor fleet utilisation, turnaround times, and driver productivity.
- Oversee handling of customer deliveries, collections, and special requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all road transport legislation, permits, and safety regulations.
People Management
- Supervise and lead a team of drivers, dispatchers, and logistics staff.
- Provide training, guidance, and performance management to ensure operational excellence.
- Enforce disciplinary procedures where required and promote a safe and productive working environment.
Fleet & Workshop Oversight
- Monitor vehicle maintenance, servicing schedules, and workshop coordination to minimise downtime.
- Ensure fleet availability meets operational requirements.
- Implement preventative maintenance strategies and ensure vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant.
Financial & Reporting
- Control area budgets, including fuel, maintenance, and overtime expenses.
- Analyse cost reports, identify inefficiencies, and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare operational and performance reports for senior management.
Customer Service & Compliance
- Act as the main point of contact for customer queries, complaints, and escalations within the area.
- Maintain service-level agreements (SLAs) and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
