We are seeking a hands-on, results-driven Store Manager to lead daily sales and operational activities within a busy retail and warehouse environment.

This is not a desk-based management role. The successful candidate will lead from the front—actively assisting customers, driving sales, managing stock, supervising staff, and ensuring the smooth and profitable running of the store and related operations.

The ideal candidate is practical, energetic, customer-focused, and comfortable working within a small, fast-paced team environment where flexibility and ownership are essential.

Preference will be given to candidates residing in or near: Edenvale, Greenstone, Bedfordview, Kensington, Germiston, Kempton Park, Boksburg, or surrounding areas.

Core Purpose of the Role

To manage and oversee all store sales and operational functions, ensuring excellent customer service, strong team performance, accurate stock control, and efficient daily operations that drive profitability and business growth.

The Store Manager is expected to actively sell and assist customers on the floor, not only supervise.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sales & Customer Service (Primary Focus)

  • Drive daily and monthly sales targets
  • Provide professional, friendly service to all walk-in customers
  • Lead by example by actively selling on the floor
  • Upsell and cross-sell products
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships to ensure repeat business
  • Handle customer queries and complaints professionally
  • Monitor pricing and promotional activities
  • Prepare and oversee order processing, wrapping, and dispatch
  • Ensure accurate cash handling, daily cash-ups, and reconciliations

2. Team Leadership & Staff Management

  • Supervise and lead store and warehouse staff
  • Allocate daily tasks and responsibilities
  • Train, mentor, and onboard new employees
  • Monitor productivity and performance
  • Manage attendance, discipline, and conduct issues
  • Conduct team meetings and maintain meeting records
  • Foster a positive, motivated, and high-performance work environment
  • Lead by example in attitude, work ethic, and professionalism

3. Store & Operational Management

  • Oversee daily opening and closing procedures (including early arrival for preparation)
  • Manage both in-store and online sales operations
  • Ensure smooth workflow between retail floor, warehouse, and dispatch
  • Oversee picking, packing, loading, and order quality control
  • Manage supplier deliveries and follow up on outstanding orders
  • Verify goods received against purchase orders
  • Maintain accurate stock control and replenishment
  • Coordinate busy trading periods and staffing requirements
  • Oversee vehicle tracking, maintenance scheduling, and route planning
  • Ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety across all facilities
  • Assist operationally where required, including physical stock handling

4. Stock Control & Inventory Management

  • Conduct regular stock counts and compulsory monthly stock takes
  • Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies
  • Minimise losses, damages, and shrinkage
  • Manage stock levels and replenishment cycles
  • Place supplier orders as required
  • Ensure accurate stock recording and documentation

5. Administration & Reporting

  • Prepare daily sales and performance reports
  • Manage staff schedules and timesheets
  • Process invoices, delivery notes, picking slips, and related documentation
  • Maintain accurate filing and record-keeping systems
  • Track KPIs and operational metrics
  • Utilise systems such as Microsoft Office, email, accounting software, and GPS tools effectively

6. Compliance & Accountability

  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Maintain health and safety standards
  • Protect company assets, stock, and vehicles
  • Report operational risks or concerns to the owner
  • Apply disciplinary processes consistently and professionally
  • Maintain professional conduct with customers, suppliers, and staff
  • Demonstrate initiative and sound decision-making

7. General Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee site maintenance and coordinate contractors when necessary
  • Ensure premises, vehicles, and equipment are clean and well maintained
  • Assist operationally with lifting, loading, and stock movement when required
  • Support daily errands and operational needs
  • Ensure the store environment remains safe and organised

Key Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in retail or store management
  • Proven sales and customer service experience
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Stock control and inventory management experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Own reliable transport
  • Physically fit (standing, walking, lifting as required)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and basic business systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Matric (Mathematics and English preferred)

Advantageous

  • Experience in a small or SME business environment
  • Warehouse, logistics, or distribution experience
  • Working knowledge of accounting or stock systems
