Job Purpose:

To continuously improve the plant overall equipment effectiveness by administering effective asset management systems and procedures, particularly in the areas of information management, work planning and control, spares and materials acquisition as well as optimisation of engineering resources in conjunction with the Engineering Manager. Ensure that the execution of planned preventative maintenance schedules for statutory inspections, such as boiler and lifting equipment, are prioritised. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements with regards to Good Engineering Practices (GEP) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) as well as compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993 as amended.

Key Job Outputs:

  • Management and administration of a preventive maintenance system using Pragma Onkey 5 software as a tool.
    • Planning and scheduling of resources required for proper execution of all planned maintenance work
    • Arrange resources such as spares, tools and materials as part of the planning process and ensure quality of spares received at the engineering stores by checking compliance to drawings,       specifications and manufacturing processes.
    • Analyses trends, failures and costs by gathering information regarding breakdowns and recommends changes to improve maintenance effectiveness.
    • Maintains a technical library of equipment manuals, drawings, electrical certificate of compliance, safety data sheets, statutory inspection records and calibration certificates.
    • Submit monthly system reports to management detailing analysis trends on failures and breakdowns, including making recommendations to improve maintenance effectiveness.
    • Drive various quality system elements for engineering such as deviation management, root cause analysis, CAPA management, change control, and quality risk management.
    • Ensure that pharmaceutical systems such DQ, IQ, OQ and PQ are complied with as per SAHPRA and other regulatory requirements, in consultation with Validation Department.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements regarding Good Engineering Practices (GEP) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
    • Drafting and updating of relevant departmental SOPs timeously.
    • Develop, review and update Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules for the plant, including facilities and building maintenance.
    • Priorities the creation of statutory and quality sensitive equipment, calibrations and inspections work orders, including the execution thereof.
    • Identify, plan and schedule work to be completed during plant shutdowns, including opportunity weekend work.
    • Ensure that work orders/job cards are created for all unplanned/breakdown work and feedback captured within a period of 48 hours.
    • Ensure that all contractors working on site are supervised by an internal resource, work orders created and captured.
    • Drive root cause analysis for all breakdowns greater than an hour to eliminate reoccurrence.
    • Drive continuous asset management improvement with a quest to achieve plant equipment availability greater than 95%.
    • Drive planned preventative maintenance schedule attainment greater than 80% and work order backlog of less than 20 for the plant.
    • Conduct regular training of production Team Leaders, Maintenance Artisans and Senior Technicians on Pragma Onkey 5 as well as the need to provide quality and timeous feedback on all work orders.

  • Trade tested artisan with National diploma as a minimum qualification.
    • Desired Qualification – ND/BTech/BEng/BSc Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
    • 5 years’ experience within an FMCG engineering/manufacturing environment with at least 3 years planning experience. 
    • Pharmaceutical industry experience will be advantageous.
    • Knowledge of preventative maintenance principles and systems.
    • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft office suite packages and ERP experience, preferably Pragma Onkey 5.
    • Knowledge of project planning and scheduling concepts, including the use of project management software.
