- The Technical Services Chemist provides laboratory- and field-based technical support to Procurement, Operations, Sales and customers within a resin manufacturing environment.
- The role supports resin quality, product optimisation, customer technical queries and the development of cost-effective, high-performance solutions.
Roles, and Responsibilities:
- Conduct short-term technical evaluations/development requiring immediate attention, as well as long-term projects assigned by the TSM.
- Modify existing resin systems to meet customer requirements and generate formulation packages.
- Prepare customer samples for trial purposes.
- Prepare and update Technical Data Sheets, Safety Data Sheets and Master Certificates of Analysis.
- Determine suitable work-off/blend-off for rejected, expired and over-stocked products.
- Evaluate alternative raw materials and provide cross-functional technical support to QC, Operations, Procurement and Commercial.
- Product Optimisation & Development
- Assist with product optimisations recommended by QC through SHEQsys.
- Conduct laboratory work for technical projects, quality/customer complaints and new product launches.
- Maintain formulation packages and technical literature.
- Research & Development / Innovation
- Conduct R&D on existing, competitive, new and alternate products, raw materials and application techniques, with focus on new polymers, circularity and green technology; evaluate opportunities in new markets and applications and lead product tweak/development initiatives.
- HSE / Laboratory
- Maintain a safe and productive laboratory, equipment in good working order and calibrated, high housekeeping standards, and actively engage in Lean/6S initiatives.
- Visit customers for trials, technical problem-solving, guidance and recommendations; attend trade shows/conferences when required.
- Take ownership of technical service initiatives, plan and execute laboratory work, coordinate resources, prepare detailed technical reports, maintain SOPs and ensure timely stakeholder communication.
